House Alterations and Extension – South Anderson Drive, Aberdeen

House Extension and Internal Alterations, South Anderson Drive

With our services recommended by a previous client, we met up with a young couple looking to improve the layout and flow of their house. Although the property is a large detached, granite built house, an ill-considered extension built in the 80’s was detracting from the quality of the original house. This had resulted in a convoluted route through to the rear of the house, which had no connection, or access, to the garden.

After producing a series of designs, as part of the Feasibility Study, the client decided to proceed with a small house extension and internal alterations.  By repositioning the stair we were able to dramatically improve the layout, flow and circulation of the house. We linked the new and existing spaces by removing internal walls, creating a large open plan Kitchen/Dining/Family space, opening out into the garden via large sliding doors.

The external appearance of the house has been improved by re-rendering the original and new extension. The end result is a house which the clients can be proud of, and suits the way they want to live.

McGregor Garrow Architects were employed from conception to completion. Following the Feasibility Study, we obtained the planning and building warrant approvals from the council. We then arranged a competitive tender, with 5 local builders providing fixed tender costs for carrying out the works. Having appointed the chosen builder, McGregor Garrow Architects carried out regular inspections during the construction phase, ensuring the building was built as per the contract and acting as contract Administrator.

The extension was completed in September 2016, with a build duration of 14 weeks.
