New Build House, Inchgarth Road
McGregor Garrow Architects were approached by a client looking to split their existing feu, to create a new build house at the bottom of their extensive garden.
We met with the client to discuss ideas and develop a brief. We then carried out a measurement survey of the proposed plot and prepared initial design proposals. Although the client was originally looking for a traditional design we demonstrated that a contemporary design would make the most of the sloped site. The open plan layout provides a contemporary and flexible way of living, with Bedroom group together on a separate level. All the views are orientating towards River Dee with large expanses of glass allow natural daylight to flood into house. Materials were chosen to reflect the modern design and help separate new from old. The walls are clad in a mixture of timber cladding and smooth render. The windows and doors are in dark grey aluminium and the mono-pitch roof is covered with a rubber roof membrane.
The existing planning application was refused by the council. Although disappointed with the decision, we endeavoured to obtain planning by amending the proposals to address the issues the council had with the original application. We submitted revised proposal we repositioned the house, retained the existing trees, and created access off the existing driveway. We are currently working with the council with the aim of obtaining full planning approval.
McGregor Garrow Architects always work with our clients in order to try and achieve their goals. We work alongside builders, the council and client to achieve the best design and build solutions.
